Hemp seeds: The hemp superfood

Hemp is one of the oldest useful plants of mankind. Even in ancient times, hemp was valued as a crop. People made resilient work clothes, ropes and transport bags from hemp. In medicine it was used as a sedative and narcotic. Hemp also provides an excellent, healthy edible oil that is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hemp can also be used in the kitchen as a flour substitute for baking and has a delicious, nutty taste. In the Middle Ages, hemp was used to make bow and crossbow strings as well as paper. For example, the famous Guttenberg Bible from the 15th century was printed on hemp paper! But also Hildegard von Bingen is said to owe many of her important visions and inspirations to hemp.

What are hemp seeds?

The hemp is a herbaceous perennial up to 5m high, which is immediately noticeable with its characteristic leaves. The leaves are palmately compound, have five long fingers and a strongly serrated edge. When the plant blooms, it gives off a distinctive smell that might remind some people a bit of hops. This is because the two plants are related. Both plants have a pronounced effect on the central nervous system and have had a long career as cultivated plants. The seeds of hemp today are used both medicinally and in cooking. Thus, a very healthy, tasty oil is obtained from them and they can be used ground as a substitute for flour. The oil is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids and should therefore not be heated, but given so over the food.

General and healing properties of Cannabis sativum

The basic knowledge

Analgesic

Hemp is analgesic. Due to the active substances it contains, hemp can reduce people's perception of pain in the brain and help them to be able to bear it. Especially for chronic pain patients, the effect is a great help.

Relaxing

Cannabis is relaxing. Whether mental or physical tension, cannabis reduces stress levels and relaxes. In recent studies, it has been found that hemp starts in the brain where anxiety arises. It reduces this process and leads to the person being more calm.

Decongesting

Hemp is decramping. Due to the fact that hemp regulates the electrical potentials in the nervous system, the tension in the muscles and the whole body also decreases. Voluntary and voluntary muscles relax and pain decreases.

Euphoric

Hemp is euphoric. By decreasing pain and anxiety, hemp brings an enthusiasm to rise, making happy and confident. Some even feel invincible and resolve great changes.

Appetite stimulating

Hemp is appetite stimulant. Lack of appetite is a big problem. If a person does not have enough, he weakens himself. However, in old age or in some diseases, the lack of appetite is simply a side effect. With hemp, the appetite can be sustainably stimulated again, which is why it is used, for example, for cancer patients.

Cannabis sativa: ingredients

Cannabis has been the subject of research for years. With the discovery of the human cannabinoid system in the nervous system, the plant has once again caused a stir medically.

You can find the following ingredients in cannabis:

  • 113 different cannabinoids (e.g. tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol and cannabidiol)
  • Flavonoids
  • Fats oils
  • Terpenes

Hemp seeds: Effect for body and mind

Hemp is one of the most important plants in our society. In the past, it was an important medical option to treat various diseases. It was used for pain, nervous disorders such as tremors, restlessness, but also for anxiety disorders and depression. Unfortunately, for many decades hemp was stigmatized and reduced to the status of an abused drug. It is only in recent years that hemp has been experiencing a revival. Both in medicine as CBD oil and hemp seeds, as well as in the textile and plastics industry. In the body, the importance of hemp cannot be overestimated, considering that the body has its own receptor system specifically for hemp and its ingredients. This so-called cannabinoid system has an influence on the psyche and mental states as well as on the body, muscles and digestion. The receptors of the cannabinoid system are distributed throughout the body and research is far from being finished. But especially for nervous system related diseases and symptoms, hemp has recommended itself as a possible remedy of choice.

Fields of application in naturopathy

[Cannabis sativum]
Through the human cannabinoid system, there are receptors in almost all areas of the body where hemp can develop its effect. Many effects and receptors are not yet researched.

Hemp seed as a painkiller

Many strong painkillers of modern pharmacology, such as opiates, have problems with prolonged use. On the one hand, their analgesic effect decreases with prolonged use due to habit effects, which means that the dose has to be increased. Unfortunately, with higher doses, the rate of adverse drug reactions increases, so that the analgesic itself increasingly becomes a problem. In addition, with opiates there is always the issue of addiction. Cannabis is a reliable alternative here with significantly lower addiction potential. In addition, its side effects are significantly lower than those of opiates. Especially for chronic rheumatic diseases like fibromyalgia, hemp is worth a thought.

Hemp seed for multiple sclerosis

MS is a disease in which parts of the central nervous system degenerate and the nerve structures become easily overstimulated. Involuntary movements and a characteristic intention tremor are the result. Because cannabis dampens the overstimulation of the nerves and works directly in the central nervous system, it helps alleviate the symptoms of MS.

Hemp seeds for headaches

Many headaches are stress-related tension headaches. Since hemp centrally influences the stress effect through cannabinoid receptors and regulates the activity of the nervous system, the tension is reduced and the headache subsides.

Hemp seed for asthma

Asthma is a disease of the bronchial tubes associated with inflammation of the mucous membrane, hypersensitivity to external influences, increased mucus production and constriction of the bronchial muscles. Particularly in psychogenic asthma, the narrowing of the bronchial tubes is in the foreground. The muscles of the bronchial tubes become tense during psychological stress and then lead to the breathing problems. However, since hemp has a positive effect against tension and stress mechanisms in the brain, it counteracts the constriction. As a result, the muscles relax, the bronchi dilate again and the patient can breathe again.

Hemp seeds for nausea

Nausea is often caused by stress, but also by weak digestive glands such as the liver and pancreas. Hemp stimulates the activity of the digestive glands at the cannabinoid receptors. Liver and pancreas work better and are ready to perform. Nausea disappears and appetite returns.

Hemp seeds for loss of appetite

Hemp stimulates the appetite, as the cannabinoid system also influence the digestive system, stimulate its activity and thus hunger arises. In addition, the hemp has a dampening effect on the stress system and signals the body that there is now time to eat.

Hemp seed for Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. The leading symptom is a tremor at rest that can be so strong that a normal life can no longer be thought of. Hemp has shown good effects here in studies. It calms the tremors even in severe cases to a normal level so that the limitations are imperceptible. Again, the hemp takes effect directly in the central nervous system and directly reduces the excitability of the nerves, so that the tremor of the muscles calms down.

Hemp seeds for period discomfort

Period pain is largely caused by spasms of the involuntary muscles. Cannabis has a relaxing effect via the cannabinoid system on these muscles and relieves period pain.

Notes on the use of hemp seeds

Hemp seeds can be made into tinctures or triturations. Most often they are dosed 3 times a day a measuring tip or 10-25 drops. Raw hemp seeds are also available for eating. You can then bake the seeds or add a tablespoon to cereal in the morning.

Hemp seeds during pregnancy & lactation

The consumption of hemp flowers should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Influences on the child are feared and implantation of the embryo could be prevented. Hemp seeds can be eaten during pregnancy and lactation without hesitation. The use of CBD oil is not recommended during pregnancy, there are simply no studies available.
