White birch: Ideal for mental ballast

Birch is the spring tree in our latitudes and the symbol in naturopathy of renewal and purification. It is widely used for purification, cures and cleansing and is considered the fasting tree. In Russia and Scandinavia it has a similar cultic significance as the oak in our country. In Russia, birch is an integral part of the Wernik sauna. This is a cleansing, anti-rheumatic infusion with birch water and the tapping of the bundled branches. Cleansing is not only understood as physical cleansing. Above all, it is about boosting metabolism and mental clarity.

What is the white birch?

White birch is a tree from the birch family that grows up to 25 meters high. It has a permanent cultural place in our wide and is very appreciated in the north. The birch blossoms from March to May and is often responsible here for people succumbing to allergic attacks from its pollen and suffering from hay fever. Its flowers are elongated, yellow-greenish catkins and distinctive from their appearance. It loves moist soils, so it is also a water plant. It is often found in damp woods or on river banks and floodplains. Because of its spring character it is part of many spring cults. Thus, traditionally, the maypole is made from a birch.

General and medicinal properties of Betula alba

The basic knowledge

Purifying

The birch is purifying. It boosts metabolism and helps the body to eliminate. It drains and stimulates the kidney to filter harmful substances.

Antirheumatic

Birch is anti-rheumatic. Its ingredients are anti-inflammatory and help reduce rheumatic irritation, as it inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators into the tissues.

Diuretic

Birch is diuretic. It stimulates the kidneys to work and ensures that more is filtered and more urinary substances are thus excreted. This relieves the organism and eliminates excess water.

Fields of application in naturopathy

[Betula alba]
White birch has its fixed areas of use, where centuries of experience are available.

Betula alba for mental ballast

Mental ballast has negative effects on the metabolism. Under stress, the body produces more stress hormones, which can lead to an increase in blood sugar and blood pressure. This puts a strain on body and soul. Birch helps to better remove these waste products and inhibits the inflammatory potential. This leaves the body more strength to regenerate and to bring the soul back into balance.

Betula alba for skin diseases

Some skin rashes are caused by the body's skin being called upon as an excretory organ by the body when the conventional excretory pathway appears to be overloaded. By increasing the amount of urine and stimulating the kidney to filter more, the birch strengthens the conventional excretory pathways and relieves the skin. The rashes recede again and eventually disappear completely.

White birch for urinary tract diseases

Birch stimulates the kidneys. It increases the amount of urine and helps to flush out waste products from the body by means of urine. This increased urine volume leads to increased flushing of the kidney, bladder and ureter. Pathogens that have settled here are flushed from the mucous membranes, their population is reduced and the urinary tract infection is weakened so that the immune system can better fight it.

Betula alba for rheumatism

In rheumatic symptoms, there is often an irritation of the tissue by urinary substances that lead to inflammation. These substances are increasingly filtered out and excreted by the birch in the kidney. As a result, the cause of the rheumatic irritation recedes, the inflammation subsides and the rheumatic symptoms disappear again.

Notes on the use of white birch

Birch is often used as a tea. Most often this is done as part of therapeutic cures or regular in the spring. However, birch is also used in concentrated elixirs, homeopathic preparations and spagyric remedies. It is not intended to be taken continuously. During the cure it should be taken several times a day in combination with sufficient drinking.

Betula alba during pregnancy & lactation

The use of concentrated birch preparations during pregnancy and lactation is not sufficiently proven. However, there is nothing against taking teas in usual quantities or using spagyric and homeopathic remedies in consultation with an experienced therapist.
