Yohimbe: The natural aphrodisiac

The yohimbe is a true legend in Africa. Its aphrodisiac properties have long been used to treat erectile dysfunction and problems with lust. Especially among the Maasai, the yohimbe is the basis of a recipe performed for initiation rites into the community. In modern naturopathy, the yohimbe has a firm place in issues such as hypertension and libido disorders of both sexes, as well as the basic treatment of stress disorders.

Yohimbe facts

Did you know that...

...the plant gained attention in the West only at the beginning of the 20th century?
...yohimbine is also recommended in the weight training scene for muscle building?
...older trees accumulate more and more active ingredient?

What is Yohimbe?

The Yohimbe is a tree that grows up to 30m high and is native to tropical Central Africa. Its trunk diameter is about 60cm and is covered with a relatively smooth, finely cracked bark. On the tree's branches are obovate leaves that are short-stalked, glabrous and leathery. At up to 47 cm long, these leaves are quite large. The bark, which is easy to extract, is collected from the plant. This contains the used alkaloids which are traditionally used in the therapy with this plant.

General and medicinal properties of Pausinystalia yohimbe

The basic knowledge

Lustful

Yohimbe is pleasurable. It stimulates sexual readiness in the brain and promotes blood flow to the sexual organs. With Yohimbe, sex is said to be enjoyed both more intensely and longer.

Blood pressure lowering

Yohimbe is blood pressure lowering. Due to its central effect on important receptors, the blood vessels dilate. This also lowers blood pressure and relieves the prevailing pressure on veins and arteries.

Stimulating

Yohimbe is stimulating. Due to its effect in the central nervous system, Yohimbe releases more norepinephrine. This effect makes alert, attentive and increases the readiness to react.

Pausinystalia yohimbe: ingredients

The parts of the plant used are the bark of the tree. From it are prepared decoctions or extracts. They contain the following active ingredients:
  • 0.5% - 1.5% Alkaloids
  • Yohimbine in different configurations

Yohimbe: effect for body and mind

The yohimbe contains a number of alkaloids that act in the central nervous system. Receptors that regulate the position of the body's blood vessels are targeted. This increases the blood flow. This widening of the vessels lowers blood pressure, but at the same time increases sexual desire. The sexual organs are better supplied with blood and the stamina is prolonged. On an emotional level, the yohimbe leads to a positive attitude towards life and the body. Mind and body are perceived as more alert and fit.

Fields of application in naturopathy

[Corynanthe yohimbe.]
All indications derive from its action on receptors of the sympathetic nervous system.

Yohimbe for erectile dysfunction

Due to its action on the receptors of the central nervous system, the blood vessels dilate. More blood can thus flow into the corpus cavernosum of the penis and trigger an erection. The erection is stronger, it lasts longer and the penis is harder.

Pausinystalia Yohimbe for tension pain in the head area

Many headaches are caused by too much tension and overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. The Yohimbe acts directly on the stress nervous system, inhibiting the receptors and allowing the body to enter a more relaxed state. The headache can thus be relieved and the stress can fall away from the sufferer.

Yohimbe for sexual aversion

Yohimbine is an alkaloid that acts directly in the central nervous system of humans. It inhibits the parts of the nervous system that are responsible for anxiety and stress. The relaxation that occurs, together with the increased blood flow to the sexual organs ensures that sexual desire arises and the affected person feels ready for it.

Pausinystalia yohimbe for hypertension

The yohimbe with its contained active substances influences receptors connected with the sympathetic nervous system. This part of the nervous system is also responsible for regulating the tension of the blood vessels. Since Yohimbe inhibits these receptors, the body can no longer generate tension here. As a result, the blood vessels relax and dilate. Blood pressure drops and more blood can flow through the vessel.

Yohimbe for physical & mental exhaustion

The yohimbe contains the alkaloid yohimbine, which is known to have an inhibitory effect on the stress nervous system. However, at the same time it stimulates, awakens and increases physical readiness. This leads to regeneration and an improvement in the general condition of physical and mental exhaustion. Improved blood circulation ensures a good supply of oxygen to the cells and has a positive effect on cellular respiration.

Yohimbe for circulatory disorders

Due to its known effect on the receptors of the sympathetic nervous system and the dilation of blood vessels, the yohimbe can also be used in other circulatory disorders. It inhibits the influence of the sympathetic nervous system on the tension of the muscles of the vessels, so that they relax and more blood can flow.

Instructions for the use of Yohimbe

The yohimbe bark can be purchased and used as a tea drug. However, there are also homeopathic preparations of the plant, which are subject to a pharmacy requirement. Yohimbine preparations in higher dosages are partly subject to prescription. As a rule, they should be taken as a course of treatment and the dose should be taken in a controlled manner.

Pausinystalia yohimbe during pregnancy & lactation

Since the yohimbe strongly affects the blood circulation in the body, it should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
